Marianne Breiland
ABOUT ME
My name is Marianne Breiland (b. 1968) and I am a passionate and enthusiastic painter exploring the abstract visual language. My artistic journey began in my youth and continued into adulthood at Nydalen Art School. After a long break from art, I returned to the easel a few years ago. Since then, I have developed my unique style through various courses with the artist Cathy Mevik, as well as the US-based artists Cat Tesla, Julie Schumer, and Jodie King. In the summer of 2025, I attended a painting course at Nansen School and had the opportunity to work under the guidance of the renowned artist Bjørnulf Dyrud.
Inspiration and Style
I have an energetic and effect-based painting style, which results in a unique and personal visual language and falls under abstract expressionism. I seek to express an untamed joy of life through my paintings and am keen on using contrasts, textures, colors, and lines to convey this. In my painting process, I have a playful and experimental approach, where the focus is on both the creative process and the end result itself. Through abstract forms and powerful brushstrokes, I invite the viewer to interpret and experience the art on a personal level.
My Artistic Expression
“I want to express energy and an untamed joy of life through the abstract visual language. I enjoy using contrasts, from large, fast, and energetic brushstrokes to smaller lines. In this way, I want to give the viewer the freedom to explore and discover something new each time they look at the painting, almost like observing the changing shapes of clouds.”
