Marianne Breiland
About me
My name is Marianne Breiland (b. 1968) and I am a passionate and enthusiastic painter who explores the abstract visual language. My artistic journey began in my youth and continued into adulthood at Nydalen Kunstskole. After a long break from art, I found my way back to the easel a few years ago. Since then, I have developed my unique style through various courses with artist Cathy Mevik, as well as the US-based artists Cat Tesla and Julie Schumer.
I have an energetic and effect-based painting style, which gives me a completely unique and personal visual language. I seek to express an unbridled joy of life through my paintings and am concerned with contrasts, structures, colors and lines to convey this. In my painting process, I have a playful and experimental approach, where the focus is both on the creative process and the end result itself. Through abstract shapes and powerful brushstrokes, I invite the viewer to interpret and experience art on a personal level.
I describe my art like this:
“I want to express energy and an unbridled joy of life through the abstract imagery. I like to use contrasts, from large, fast and energetic brushstrokes to the smaller lines. In this way, I want to give the viewer the freedom to explore and discover something new every time they look at the painting, almost like when they look away into the changing shapes of the clouds.”
