BECAUSE I WANT TO - Exhibition at Sørkedalen Landhandel March 3 - April 6, 2026

It's almost time for an exhibition at Sørkedalen Landhandel. I've stopped by here many times for a cup of cocoa or other treats on my way home after a bike ride or ski trip. A little gem in Sørkedalen with beautiful outdoor areas. I've long wanted to exhibit paintings here, and finally, I got the opportunity, which I immediately accepted.

Since summer 2025, when I studied for a week at Nansenskolen under artist Bjørnulf Dyrud, I've been playing with the title for my next exhibition. And one day, it clicked: "Because I want to." The idea behind the title largely revolves around being a woman and the fact of being in the latter half of life. What does that actually mean? It sounds incredibly daunting. But instead of seeing the glass as half empty, it's still half full. With lots of possibilities. As a woman, I've already lived through some of life's eras. Each period has its strengths, opportunities, and challenges. We adapt, grow, and learn – and in doing so, we carry experience that makes us stronger with each chapter. After half a century, perhaps the most liberating era arrives. The one traditionally seen as a decline, but which in reality can be the start of something great. When we can finally free ourselves from others' opinions, expectations, and demands – that's when life begins anew. This exhibition is a celebration of just that. The paintings are created with powerful brushstrokes and strong colors, because I want to, because I dare to. They express energy, joy of life, and pride. It's a wonderful feeling just to be.
